Prep time: 10 Minutes
Cook time: 25 Minutes
Serves: 8

Ingredients

  • Cornmeal – 1 cup
  • All-Purpose Flour – 1 cup
  • Sugar – 1/3 cup
  • Baking Powder – 1 tbsp
  • Salt – 1 tsp
  • Buttermilk – 1 cup
  • Eggs – 2
  • Butter, Melted – 1/2 cup
  • My Sauce Lab Lucifer – 2 tbsp (for the batter)
  • Butter, Softened – 4 tbsp (for the honey butter)
  • Honey – 3 tbsp
  • My Sauce Lab Lucifer – 2 tbsp (for the honey butter)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Grease a 9-inch cast iron skillet or baking dish and place it in the oven to heat.
  2. Whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and 2 tbsp Lucifer.
  4. Pour the wet into the dry and stir until just combined — lumps are fine, overmixing makes it tough.
  5. Carefully pour the batter into the hot skillet. It should sizzle.
  6. Bake 22-25 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. While it bakes, whip the softened butter with the honey and remaining 2 tbsp Lucifer until fluffy.
  8. Serve the cornbread warm with a generous spread of sweet heat honey butter.
